Mohammed Sham has been India’s best bowler on the day. During the Hyderabad ODI against Australia, the Bengal pacer got the better of Glenn Maxwell with a ‘Jaffa’. Maxwell, who had hit a brilliant unbeaten hundred in the Bengaluru T20I didn’t look to drop his guard here in the first ODI. However, Shami had other plans – he first set up the all-rounder by bowling outside the off stump before getting one in off the pitch to remove his wickets.

Australia begins well, losses plot in the middle

The Australia captain, Aaron Finch, won the toss and elected to bat first. Mohammed Shami, who got the nod ahead of Bhuvneshwar Kumar started the proceedings with a maiden. Bumrah, India’s premier pace bowler didn’t take long before getting Finch on zero in his first over. The likes of Usman Khawaja and Marcus Stoinis then began the rescue work. However, after adding 87 for the second wicket, the Aussies lost two more wickets inside 150.

Glenn Maxwell, the star of the T20Is, made his presence felt in the middle. Though he didn’t hit one off the boundary ropes, Maxi scored five fours during his stay at the crease. Meanwhile, before Mohammed Shami trapped him in his web, the fast bowler had bowled all-rounder, Ashton Turner off a slower ball. Australia, at one stage, was 169 for five and needed a partnership to post a decent total on the board. Unfortunately, for the visitors, it didn’t happen.

During the 40th over, Shami had kept it tight for Maxwell from the word go – frustrating him eventually. As the over was about to get finished, Shami bowled a ‘Jaffa’ of a delivery to clean Maxwell’s off-stump. Though off the hand it went straight, the ball deviated slightly only after pitching; resulting in Glenn getting bowled. He scored 4- off 51 balls.
