India’s opening batsman great gesture on the second day of the ongoing second Test in Nagpur once again showed that why cricket is called the gentleman’s game. Showing sportsmanship of highest quality, the right-handed batsman was quick to ask Sadeera Samarawickrama whether he was fine after his shot hit the Sri Lankan opener.
The incident took place in the 70th over of India’s first innings which was bowled by Rangana Herath. On the second ball of the over, Vijay knelt down and played a full bloodied sweep. However, the ball hit Samarawickrama, who was standing at short leg, straight into his ribs. It was a nasty blow and the Sri Lankan batsman immediately clutched onto his chest and writhed in pain as he stayed on the ground grimacing in pain.
Samarawickrama was soon attended by the team doctor before Vijay won the hearts with a beautiful gesture as he walked up to the Sri Lankan player tapped him from behind to ask whether he was okay or not.

Meanwhile, Vijay made an impressive comeback in Tests as he slammed 128. After a lengthy stay on the sidelines due to a wrist injury, Vijay returned to the team during the ongoing series but could not make it to the playing eleven in the first game. However, opportunity arrived for him when Shikhar Dhawan had to leave the team due to personal reasons and the Tamil Nadu star fully capitalised on it, slamming his tenth Test century to put India on top.
Cheteshwar Pujara also scored a century and was unbeaten on 121 as India finished the day on 312 for 2, with the overall lead extended to 107. Giving Pujara company is India skipper Virat Kohli who scored 54.
