It was an incredible day at the office for the young Navdeep Saini in Cuttack. On his debut, he made the ball do talking to make things fall in place for the Indian team with the new ball. After having Shimron Hetmyer as his maiden wicket in the ODI format, he castled the stumps of Roston Chase with a brilliant piece of a yorker.

After conceding eight runs off his first over, Saini conceded just 10 of his next four and reaped the reward for putting persistent pressure on the batsman in his fifth over by claiming his maiden ODI scalp, that of Shimron Hetmyer via a sharp bouncer. Having just lost Hetmyer, the duo of Roston Chase and Nicholas Pooran were looking to rebuild, not trying to take too many risks in the process.

On the third ball of the 32nd over, with Chase, looking to do nothing but rotate the strike, Saini unleashed a ripper of a reverse-swinging yorker, catching the batsman off guard. It was a delivery which started on a sixth stump but swung in viciously to knock the stumps of Roston Chase.

The 27-year-old pacer impressed with his raw pace, taking three wickets in his debut T20I against West Indies in Lauderhill. With his ODI debut, Saini became the 229th Indian to play in ODIs for the national team. Mumbai’s young all-rounder Shivam Dube also made his debut during the ongoing series against West Indies.

Initially, it was India, who won the toss, asked the visitors to bat first. All the batsmen of West Indies got their starts, but unfortunately, none of them succeeded in converting the start into a big one before Nicholas Pooran and Kieron Pollard showing their brutal hitting in the middle and final overs of the game.

They picked the particular bowlers to get those quick runs in the middle overs and later punished all the Indian fast bowlers in the slog overs to make things fall in place for the team.
