Beleaguered Shikhar Dhawan is working hard off the field as he gears up to fight his way back in the Test team after being dropped following his poor performance in the first England vs India Test at Edgbaston.

The tour of England has not gone down well so far for Shikhar Dhawan. After having some average outings in the limited-overs series, the southpaw failed miserably. He managed just 19 runs in the three T20Is against England. In the subsequent ODI series, he scored 40, 36 and 44.

Dhawan was not a certainty to open with Murali Vijay after bagging a pair in the warm-up match against a second-string Essex side. The southpaw had faced just four deliveries in the warm-up game. That performance further tarnished his image as a Test batsman in overseas conditions.

However, the team gambled on him and it backfired.  In both innings, Dhawan looked quite lost against swinging deliveries and ended up poking at the deliveries that was moving away outside off stump. In the first innings, he got the start and was batting on 26 before poking at an away going delivery from Sam Curran. He struggled in the second innings too as he edged a Stuart Broad delivery to the wicketkeeper after scoring 13.

But India’s openers – Murali Vijay and KL Rahul – also failed with the bat in the second Test. In both the innings,  they could not add a single run on the scoreboard. As a result, there are chances of Dhawan returning to the playing eleven.

And the southpaw is making sure he works hard to remain prepared for the game. On Tuesday, he posted a video of himself working out in the gym with the caption:

“There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work and learning from failure – Colin Powell”

Meanwhile, India trail the series 2-0. The third Test will get underway at Trent Bridge on Saturday.
