Sometimes more than technique and temperament, luck is needed to get out of a prolonged slump in form, and Quinton de Kock got exactly that in the ongoing second One-Day International against India in Centurion.

The keeper-batsman, who had scored three consecutive ODI centuries when India visited the African country four years ago, is struggling to get going this time around. He has failed to cross the 50-run mark even once in three Tests and the first ODI.

Well, the left-handed batsman’s poor form looked to continue on  Sunday (February 4) too before his luck gave him another chance to return to form. The 25-year old rode his fortune on the very first ball he faced during the game from Jasprit Bumrah in the second over. The right-arm bowler bowled one just outside off which bounced steeply.

In an attempt to smother the bounce, de Kock rose on his feet to get behind the ball. However, his attempt to defend the ball with soft hands had nearly cost him big time, as the ball bounced past him and then spun back towards the stumps. The ball went on to roll and hit the leg-stump, but luckily for de Kock, the bails didn’t come off.

Here is a clip of that incident:
