One cannot just keep Rashid Khan out of action on a cricket field as the Afghanistan star continues to weave his magic in Australia in the ongoing Big Bash League. Given the way he had batted in the previous matches of the tournament, the fans must have been hoping for some fireworks for him when the Adelaide Strikers superstar walked out to bat against Sydney Sixers on Wednesday.

However, he failed to deliver this time around and was sent back by Tom Curran for a two-ball duck. But the leg-spinner did not take long to hog the limelight as he picked up his first hat-trick in the Big Bash League. It was the fifth hat-trick in the BBL’s history  and also the fifth for Afghan spinner in T20 cricket.

The hat-trick was spanned across two overs. On the last two balls of the 11th over of Sydney Sixers’ innings, Rashid Khan had Jame Vince caught behind and on the very next ball, he trapped Jack Edwards in-front of the wickets. And on the very first ball of the 12th over, Rashid Khan cleaned up Jordan Silk with a googly to claim his hat-trick. Khan eventually ended with figures of 4/22 in his quota of four overs.

Here is a clip of his hat-trick:

Hat-trick in vain:

Rashid Khan’s memorable effort, meanwhile, went in vain as Sydney Sixers beat his side Adelaide Strikers by two wickets in a low-scoring tie. A career-best bowling performance from England star Tom Curran helped the Sixers bowl out the Strikers for just 135. Curran picked up 4 for 22 off 3.4 overs.

Asked to bat first, Strikers suffered a collapse of 5 for 10 from 21 balls to slump from 110 for to 120 for 8, ultimately losing their last seven wickets for just 25. Jake Weatherald was the top-scorer for his side with 47. In reply, the Sixers survived Rashid Khan’s hat-trick to chase down the total with 8 balls remaining.
