Expecting a bowler to appeal after castling a batsman is perhaps one of most bizarre things one can see on a cricket field. Well, a similar incident was witnessed in the last over of fourth day’s play of the ongoing Test in Delhi’s Feroz Shah Kotla.

The incident happened when Ravindra Jadeja came to bowl the 16th and the last over of the day. India were already in the driver’s seat after setting Sri Lanka a huge 410-run target and sending back Sadeera Samarawickrama cheaply. India’s grip on the game was further strengthened when Jadeja dismissed Dimuth Karunaratne on the very first ball of his over. Three balls later, the left-arm spinner struck again, but it was full of drama. Sri Lanka’s ploy of sending Suranga Lakmal as night watchman did not work out as he could last only three balls. Jadeja’s loopy delivery had uprooted Lakmal’s off-stump, but the Indian spinner was seen appealing for reasons only known to him. But before he could do anything else, his teammates informed him that the ball had hit the stumps directly. The incident was so shocking to him that he was seen justifying the appeal even when the players were walking off the pitch.

Here is a clip of that incident:
