With the scoreboard reading 122 for 5 when Rishabh Pant and Ajinkya Rahane started the proceedings with the bat on day two of the ongoing first Test against New Zealand, the last thing India would have wanted is a run out. But then again, nothing much is going India’s way in the game and Rishabh Pant’s promising knock coming to an end with a horrific run-out pretty much sums it up.

Rishabh Pant started the day on a positive note by blasting Ajaz Patel for a six in the very first over of the day. However, his innings did not last long as he was run out just two overs later. And one can say that Rishabh Pant was not at all pleased with Ajinkya Rahane as he did not shy away from expressing his frustration towards his senior teammate.

The run-out happened in the 59th over of the innings which was just the fourth over of day two. On the first ball of the over, Rahane tapped Tim Southee’s delivery gently towards the off-side and ran for a single straightaway despite Rishabh Pant in no mood for the same.

But by the time Rahane realised it, he was well past the halfway mark, leaving Rishabh Pant with no option but to try and complete the non-existent single. The hesitant youngster did go for the run and although Ajaz at backward point threw a direct hit from the side-on angle at the keeper’s end, the ball just about dislodged the bails. Rishabh Pant was well short of the crease and had to return to the dressing room.

But before returning, the wicketkeeper-batsman made sure to express his emotions. He turned back and looked at Rahane while making his frustration clear. He was also seen muttering something while he was walking off the field.

Here is a clip of that run-out:
