Rohit Sharma led from the front again as India trounced Bangladesh by 7 wickets in the first game of the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup. The right-handed batsman scored 83 not out to guide his team to another comprehensive win.

Right from the toss till the winning runs, everything went right for Rohit. His decision to bowl first was totally justified by the bowlers as India bowled out Bangladesh for just 173 runs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah gave India the perfect start by dismissing both Bangladesh openers with just 16 runs on the board.

Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim stopped the rot for a while before Bangladesh lost three wickets in quick time. The two added 26 runs before Ravindra Jadeja broke the stand by dismissing Shakib. The dismissal brought together Mushfiqur and Mithun in the middle. The duo had saved Bangladesh with a century-plus stand in the first game of the competition. However, they could not weave their magic this time around.

The duo could add only 18 runs before Jadeja struck to remove both of them in quick succession and reduce the Tigers to 65 for 5. Mahmudullah and Mosaddek Hossain once again revived Bangladesh’s hopes with a 36-run stand. However, Bangladesh lost them on the same score to find themselves 7 down for just 101.

But just when it looked India would wrap up Bangladesh innings soon, Mehidy Hasan and Mashrafe Mortaza shared a fifty-plus stand to give their team a much-needed lift. The duo 66 runs before Bhuvneshwar Kumar accounted for Mortaza who scored 26. Bangladesh were eventually all out for 173.

The total, however, turned out to be too less as India chased it down inside 37 overs by losing just 3 wickets. Rohit Sharma was the star of the show, scoring an unbeaten 83. The knock contained 8 fours and 3 sixes and the pick of the lot was the six he hit to reach his fifty.

Shakib Al Hasan bowled one which was just a bit short. However, it was enough for Rohit to dispatch the ball for a huge six to deep mid-wicket.
