Rohit Sharma pulled off two stunning saves near the boundary ropes in the ongoing first T20I against West Indies in Hyderabad. While Rohit Sharma usually fields inside the 30-yard circle, he was deployed near the ropes today and he fully justified the faith shown in him. Those twins saves from Rohit some of the only positives for India in an otherwise poor bowling display.

India’s decision to bowl first turned out to be wrong as West Indies piled up a mammoth total of 207 for 5 in the allotted 20 overs. Shimron Hetmyer top-scored for the visitors, scoring 56 off 41 balls with the help of 2 fours and four sixes. After Lendl Simmons departed cheaply, Evin Lewis blasted 40 from just 17 to give West Indies a solid start.

Towards the end, skipper Kieron Pollard and his predecessor played quickfire knocks to propel their side to a big total. While Pollard smashed 37 from just 19 with the help of four sixes, Holder blasted 24 off just 9 balls. For India, Yuzvendra Chahal was the most successful bowler, picking up two wickets although he ended up conceding 36 runs off his four overs.

Rohit Sharma’s stunning saves:

Rohit Sharma, meanwhile, gave the fans something to cheer about with two stunning saves off two consecutive deliveries in the 16th over. On the first ball of the over, Hetmyer miscued a loft shot towards long-on where Washington Sundar dropped the catch. The ball was then racing towards the boundary before Rohit Sharma came running in from the right and stopped the ball from touching the boundary rope with an acrobatic dive, thus saving three runs.

On the very next ball, he almost pulled off a one-handed stunner. Pollard hit the short ball from Deepak Chahar towards long-on. Rohit then ran towards his right and caught the ball in a stunning manner by just one hand. But since the momentum was taking him over, he parried it back onto the ground.

Here is a clip of both those saves:
