England held on to their nerves and registered a nerve-clinching 5 wickets victory against India in the 2nd T20I  at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff to level the 3 match series 1-1. Alex Hales played a stunning knock of an unbeaten 58 and ensured England reached the target of 149 with just two deliveries left. India came back into the match on the back of some impressive bowling. However, Hales had other plans and he executed his plans to perfection.

After batting first India managed to score just 148 runs on the board in their allotted 20 overs. India was reduced to 22/3 before the powerplay. They were in serious trouble when Kohli and Raina shared a 57 runs partnership. On the other hand, former skipper MS Dhoni also played a fluent hand and remained unbeaten on 32 of 24 deliveries. The score of 148 was never par for the course. However, the visiting bowlers tried their best and took the game to the final over.

England huffed a puffed their way to the victory target

England eventually huffed and puffed their way to the target courtesy an unbeaten knock from Hales. Umesh Yadav provided the two crucial breakthroughs of Jason Roy and Jos Buttler with the score reading 33. Joe Root was castled by a brilliant delivery from Yuzvendra Chahal which breached his defence and disturbed the timbers.

From there on it was a good partnership between Hales and skipper Eoin Morgan which got the home team back on track. Morgan played himself in for a score of 17. However, he was dismissed by Hardik Pandya. However, the credit of the dismissal must go to Shikhar Dhawan who completed an exceptional catch near the fine leg region.

It was a short delivery from Pandya and Morgan failed to keep the shot down. Dhawan misjudged the pace on the ball and came inside a bit more. However, he leapt in the air at the correct time and completed a sensational catch. His trademark celebration was step was out yet again and why shouldn’t he. It was simply a great catch. However, his catch was not enough to hand India a series victory with a match to go.
