Former Pakistan fast-bowler Shoaib Akhtar has slammed skipper Sarfraz Ahmed after West Indies thrashed the reigning Champions Trophy holders by 7 wickets at Trent Bridge on Friday. Akhtar did not refrain from criticising Sarfraz for his poor physique as he lamented his country’s performance against the Caribbean outfit.

West Indies thoroughly outplayed the Men in Green to start their World Cup on a stunning note. It took them less than 22 overs to bowl out Pakistan and less than 14 overs to chase down the paltry total of 106. West Indies’ ploy of targeting Pakistan batsmen with short stuff paid rich dividends. Fast bowler Oshane Thomas took four wickets as Pakistan were bundled out for their second-lowest World Cup total of 105 in just 21.4 overs.

In reply, West Indies cruised to victory in just 13.4 overs, with Chris Gayle top-scoring with 50. He reached his half-century off 33 balls with three sixes and six fours before he was dismissed off the next ball he faced. Highly-rated Nicolas Pooran then smashed Wahab Riaz for a huge six over the square-leg boundary to give his side a stunning start. For Pakistan, the only positive was three wickets for pacer Mohammad Amir who has struggled since his heroics in the final of 2017 Champions Trophy.

“Very disappointed at the batting. I was very confident before the match, batting was a key point but we didn’t apply it to the short ball. “Credit to the West Indian bowlers, they bowled really well,” Sarfraz said after the loss.

But there was no respite for Sarfraz as Shoaib Akhtar slammed him for his poor fitness. In a video that is doing the rounds viciously on social media, Akhtar said:
“When Sarfaraz Ahmed came for the toss, his stomach was sticking out and his face was so fat. He’s the first captain I’ve seen who is so unfit. He’s not able to move across and he’s struggling with wicket-keeping”
