Four years ago, Rohit Sharma was responsible for Virat Kohli‘s run-out when India were taking on Australia at Bangalore’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. However, the Mumbai star had made amends for that mistake by slamming a monumental 209, paving the way for India’s series-clinching win.

Fast forward four years, the same scene was witnessed at the same venue and against the same opposition. The only difference this time was that the miscommunication cost a well-set Rohit Sharma his wicket. Chasing a daunting 335 to go 4-0 up in the series, India were off to a great start with Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma adding 106 runs for the first wicket before the former was dismissed. Rahane’s dismissal, however, did not affect Rohit much as he kept on playing his shots and raced away to 65 off just 55 balls before a misunderstanding ended his promising knock.

Well, the reason behind the misunderstanding was not Kohli but a brilliant piece of fielding by Australia skipper Steve Smith, Kohli punched a Kane Richardson delivery to the left of backward point where Smith made a full length to his left and stopped the ball. In the meantime, Kohli, who had initially left the crease, cancelled his plans of going for the run while Rohit did not have that luxury as he was at the striker’s end. He tried hard to get back to his crease after Smith threw the ball at the wrong end but by the time he could reach his end, Travis Head threw the ball in time and Richardson did the rest.

Here is a clip of that stunning run-out:
