Australia U19 batsman Sam Fanning has been been found guilty of a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel for an incident during the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup quarterfinal match against India earlier this week.

The high-voltage clash saw a number of interesting incidents where the players let the emotions get the better of themselves. One such incident took place at the very start of the Australian innings when batsman Oliver Davies tried to get under the skin of pacer Kartik Tyagi by shouting at him but was out on the very next delivery.

As far as the incident regarding Sam Fanning is concerned, the incident took place on the first ball of the 31st over during Australia’s run-chase. Sam Fanning was on strike while Akash Singh was bowling when the former decided to take things to the next level by surprisingly sticking his elbow out which made contact with the bowler.

Very unsurprisingly, Akash Singh was taken aback by the turn of events and was then seen complaining to the umpires. The replays made it clear that Sam Fanning had done it intentionally and ICC didn’t take long to punish him for his behaviour. He was found to have violated Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which relates to “inappropriate physical contact with another player during an international match”.

Sam Fanning admitted the offence after the game and accepted the sanction proposed by ICC U19 Cricket World Cup Match Referee Graeme Labrooy.

Sam Fanning top-scored for Australia in the match, scoring 75 but it went in vain as India beat them by 74 runs to storm into the semifinal. Chasing 234, Australia were all out for 159.
