Prithvi Shaw failed to shine on his Test return as the India opener was out for just 16 in the ongoing first Test against New Zealand in Wellington. The right-handed batsman was playing his first Test since his debut series way back in October 2018. He was a part of the team for the Australia tour but suffered an injury just before the start of the series.

Prithvi Shaw then missed last year’s home season after being suspended by a doping violation. He returned to action through domestic cricket and hit the ground running. However, the youngster has not really managed to replicate that form in international cricket.

Prithvi Shaw, who hit a century on his Test debut, made his ODI debut in the ongoing tour of New Zealand but failed to impress, scoring 20, 24 and 40. Even in the warm-up game, he could not get going and was out for 0 and 39 in the three-day game.

And the highly-rated opener’s struggles continued in the ongoing Test too as he could score only 16 before being cleaned up by a stunning delivery from New Zealand pace spearhead Tim Southee. On a green top, Prithvi Shaw, who was playing his first Test in New Zealand, needed to be at his best.

However, he could very little on that delivery from Southee. The young opener did not show any footwork against the moving ball and paid a hefty price for his mistake. Southee bowled a full-length outswinging delivery. The ball pitched at the middle and off line.

Prithvi Shaw, on his part, decided to work the ball on the leg side but failed miserably. He was completely undone by the movement as the ball moved away at the last moment to rattle his stump.

Here is a clip of that wicket:
