The game of cricket has seen many extraordinary catches over the years and the one that stands apart is the catch taken at the slip region because fielders have to react quickly in a split second. During the ongoing second Test match between Australia and New Zealand at the MCG, Tim Southee pulled off an absolute gem of a one-handed catch to send David Warner packing at the best scene.
Apart from bowling terrific out-swingers to the batsmen, he is also known for the knack of hitting big shots. Sometimes, he smashes sixes with relative ease. But there is one more interesting aspect which others should know and that is his fielding. Southee has perfected the art of taking some incredible catches and he has done that time and again in the past.

However, it was no surprise at all when he took an outstanding catch on the Boxing day. It all happened during the 22nd over of Australia’s first innings when Neil Wagner tossed a half wholly outside the off-stump and the left-handed batsman Warner had pushed himself to play the ball with no proper footwork and it ended up finding the outside edge of his willow. The outside edge flew straight into the slip cordon, where Tim Southee took a one-handed catch.

His spectacular effort drew plaudits from every nook and corner of the cricket fraternity including the former Australian wicket-keeper Adam Gilchrist. “(Ross) Taylor (at first slip) would’ve thought he was in the game, but Southee, the big fast bowler at second slip; that’s modern cricket for you,” said Gilchrist on Fox Cricket.
