Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanka’s ploy of introducing leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga in just the third over of India’s inning proved to be a masterstroke as the talented bowler knocked over the dangerous-looking Prithvi Shaw.
Prithvi Shaw was once again looking in imperious touch as he opened his account with three consecutive disdainful boundaries off Kasun Rajitha in the first over of the Indian run-chase.
Seeing how comfortable Shaw was looking against Rajitha, Dasun Shanaka immediately replaced him with Wanindu Hasaranga in the 3rd over.
And, the move paid immediate dividend as Prithvi Shaw, for the second time in as many games, fell to a spinner.
Shaw was looking fidgety against the leg-spin of Hasaranga from the very first ball he faced. He nearly chopped it on to his stumps while going for a lofted drive earlier in the over.
He was eventually undone on the final delivery of the same over.
It was a wrong un’ from Hasaranga and Shaw did not pick it. He lined up for the cut shot by sensing the line and length of the delivery and ended up missing the ball, crashing into his off-stump.
India lost yet another wicket in the form of Ishan Kishan, who was initially roughed up by Kasun Rajitha in the 5th over,
Kishan went for a full-blooded cut-shot and ended up chopping it straight onto his stumps.
At the time of writing, India were 2/58 in 9.5 overs with captain Shikhar Dhawan and Manish Pandya still at the crease.
