Over the years, one has witnessed several bizarre dismissals but the one which was shared by Yuvraj Singh on his Instagram certainly tops them all. And if the umpire’s verdict was not enough to baffle the fans, the batsman walking off without showing any kind of dissent was more than enough to serve that purpose.

The match had taken place way back in 2007 in an MCC University cricket match between Surrey and Leeds-Bradford UCCE but perhaps  Yuvraj saw it recently like most of the other cricket fans and could not refrain himself from posting it on his Instagram account.

Here is the clip posted by the Indian batting stalwart:

The chain of events, starting from the ball evading the bat by a good margin, the fielders unsurprisingly not even appealing before the umpire raising the finger and the batsman walking away without showing any disagreement raised a lot of eyebrows.

Not surprisingly, some accused the umpire of ‘cheating’ and some feel that the batsman simply walked away to not end up to be on the wrong side of the laws. But before you all speculate anything else, there is another explanation to that incident which is bound to end the confusion surrounding the bizarre dismissal.

As per reports, the batsman Tom Merilaht, while batting against Surrey, had hit his stumps on a delivery, but not before the umpire had called ‘over’, which signalled the ball being dead. Thus, to make amends, it was mutually decided between the two teams and the umpires that the batsman would be adjudged out on the very next ball he faced. And as decided, the umpire raised his finger when Merilaht faced the next delivery which he failed to make any contact with.

According to the official scorecard, the right-handed batsman was given caught behind off Mohammad Akram. The umpire in this case was Ian Gould, now a member of ICC’s Elite Panel of umpires.
