The zing bails are once again in the news for all the wrong reasons. In this year’s World Cup, the zing bails failed to come off on a number of occasions after the ball hit the stumps. After the ball’s contact with the ball, the electronic zing bails lighted up but stayed firmly in place. And a similar incident took place on New Year’s Day when Brisbane Heat took on Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League.
The game was pretty much done and dusted as Brisbane Heat were reeling at 91 for 9 in the 17th over while chasing 147. And when Matthew Kelly bowled a 133kph yorker to Zahir Khan, it looked like the game was over. But to everyone’s utter surprise, the zing bails refused to come out.
It was yorker length ball and Zahir Khan inside-edged it onto his pad before the ball ricocheted onto the sticks. The zing bails flashed in a blink of an eye but did not come off, leaving the commentators utterly surprised. The ball rolled towards point and the batsmen crossed for a single.
Here is a clip of that incident:

Perth scorchers thrash Brisbane Heat:
As far as the game is concerned, Perth Scorchers made light work of Brisbane Heat. The Perth-based outfit thrashed the Brisbane-based outfit by 40 runs. Batting first, the Scorchers finished their innings on a competitive 149 for 6. Cameron Bancroft top-scored for the Scorchers, scoring a 42-ball 50. For Brisbane Heat, Zahir Khan and Ben Laughlin picked up two wickets apiece.
In reply, the Heat were all out for just 109 in the 19th over. Number ten batsman Laughlin was the top-scorer for the side with 17 as the Heat suffered their third loss in four games this season.
