Ireland surrendered quite meekly in front of India as the Men in Blue thrashed the Irish side by a whopping 76 runs in the opening T20I of the two-match series. It was a great all-round performance by India which allowed them to thoroughly dominate the game for the full 40 overs. They registered a huge total of 208 after batting first and then bowled quite magnificently to restrict them to 132/.
It was a much-expected victory for the Men in Blue given the fact that they have been quite a consistent team across formats in the recent past. Openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan provided a brilliant start with a great partnership of 160 runs. It was domination at it’s very best. Dhawan and Rohit don’t need to get themselves in and it was quite evident from the way both batted.
Rohit and Dhawan shine
Rohit looked fresh and looked in complete command of proceedings. He looked to put behind his IPL woes which saw him missing out 300 runs for the first time in the season. Dhawan scored 74 of 45 deliveries which included 5 fours and 5 sixes. It was some stunning hitting by the southpaw. Rohit looked well set to for a century. However, he was castled in the final over by Peter Chase. India eventually finished on 208 in their allotted 20 overs.

Ireland kept losing wickets straightaway. Jasprit Bumrah provided the maiden breakthrough in the form of Paul Stirling. For Ireland, James Shannon was the top scorer with 60 of 35 deliveries. That was the only bright spot for Ireland while batting. Wickets kept falling at the other end. The Indian spinning duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal was quite spectacular and bagged 7 wickets between them.
Gary Wilson calls India a world class side
It was a great start to their UK bound tour. India will look to continue their run in the United Kingdom. Irish skipper Gary Wilson hailed India after the win and called them a world class side. “They are a world class side and their top-2 played beautifully. I did not expect it to spin as it did in the second innings. We could have bowled spinners in the powerplay. We are going to have a chat to tackle their spinners,” said Irish coach Gary Wilson.
