India skipper Virat Kohli, on Friday, spoke on the controversy surrounding Indian cricket in the wake of the controversial remarks made by Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul on talk show Koffee with Karan. Both the players especially Pandya is facing severe criticism for the remarks that have been called as misogynistic and racist by the mass.

While Rahul managed to give balanced answers, it was Pandya who went over the board as he gave the fans a sneak peek in his lavish lifestyle. But the flamboyant player perhaps revealed a bit too much in the show and the fans were quick to slam him.

There were some particular answers that did not go down too well with the mass. One of them was the allrounder and Rahul’s pick between Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar as the better batsman. While the jury is still out on even coming close to the conclusion of the debate between Tendulkar versus Kohli, both the players had no hesitation whatsoever in picking Kohli over Tendulkar as the better batsman.

What made things worse for Pandya was his remarks on women and his personal life that definitely left a bad taste in mouth. Despite being such a popular figure in the country, the Baroda star gave answers that one can least expect from a cricketer in this cricket-obsessed nation. His disturbing remark about his family being open and how he came home after losing his virginity took the fans by utter surprise. The allrounder had also revealed how he once took his parents to a party where they asked him which woman he was seeing, and he pointed at all of them one by one.

Earlier this week, Pandya issued an apology,  saying he ‘got a bit carried away with the nature of the show’. However, the damage was already done. And now skipper Virat Kohli has opened up on the controversy.  Speaking on the eve of the first ODI against Australia in Sydney, Kohli said that the comments made by Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul do not concur with the views of the dressing room. He also made it clear that the comments were “inappropriate”.

“We, definitely, as the Indian cricket team do not support views like that and that has been communicated,” Kohli said. “I can definitely say that as the Indian cricket team and responsible cricketers we definitely don’t align with those views and those are purely individual views.

“From the Indian cricket team point of view, any inappropriate comments that are made in that scenario are something that we definitely don’t support and the two concerned players felt what has gone wrong and they have understood the magnitude of what’s happened. Definitely it has to hit anyone hard, they will definitely understand the things that have not gone right,” he added.

“We are still waiting for a decision to be made but from the Indian cricket team point of view this changes nothing in terms of our beliefs in the change room. It does nothing to the spirit that we’ve been able to create within the change room and these are purely individual opinions and something as I said which is inappropriate,” Kohli said.
