South African Cricket team skipper Faf du Plessis has admitted that his team has forgiven Pakistan Cricket team skipper Faf du Plessis following his racist remarks. Meanwhile, Sarfaraz made the comments towards all-rounder Andile Phehlukwayo, who bagged the man of the match award in the game for his brilliant effort with both bat and ball. Moreover, South Africa won the match by five wickets to level the five-match series at 1-1.

The incident took place during the 37th over of the game as the Proteas was chasing the target. Sarfaraz Ahmed made controversial remarks when Phehlukwayo completed a run.

Abey kaale, teri ammi aaj kahaan baitheen hain? Kya parwa ke aaye hai aaj (Hey black guy, where’s your mother sitting today? What have you got her to say for you today)?” Sarfraz said during the match.

However, the Pakistan wicket-keeper apologised for the same saying that he didn’t want to upset anyone. He also stated that he holds high respects for his colleagues and will continue to do so. Faf du Plessis admitted his team had forgiven him because Sarfaraz has apologised for his wrongdoing.

We forgive him because he said sorry,” du Plessis said after South Africa’s training session on Thursday. “He has apologised and taken responsibility for it. It is out of our hands and ICC will have to deal with it now,” he added.

Phehlukwayo did not understand the language

Meanwhile, Andile Phehlukwayo was not available for any comments regarding the same. Faf du Plessis also suggested that he had not noticed the comment at the time – the language barrier meaning Phehlukwayo did not understand what was said.

Moreover, he added that they are gracious and forgive people quite easily except situations like ball-tampering that Australian cricketers indulged themselves in during the Cape Town Test last year.

Andy [Phehlukwayo] says he didn’t even notice it and thus felt it wasn’t really directed at him,” du Plessis said. “I suppose maybe because we didn’t understand it makes a bit of a difference. But it certainly doesn’t sit well with us. There seemed to be immediate regret.

We’re gracious. We forgive quite easily, except maybe against the Aussies,” he concluded.
