India’s tour of Australia may well begin in Adelaide or Brisbane instead of Perth after the Western Australian government refused any relaxations in quarantine facilities in their state.

According to a report published in ESPNCricinfo, the Adelaide Oval could well host back-to-back Tests, which includes the day-night affair and the marquee Boxing Day Test if the MCG isn’t available due to rising Covid cases in Victoria.

The major reason behind the Western Australian government refusing is that both Indian and Australian players will be directly coming from the UAE, which is going through a second Covid wave.

“We didn’t think it was acceptable to have the team return from a high-risk overseas location and then take part in normal training activities outside of quarantine, before flying out to another state to play games.” Mark McGowan, the Premier of the Western Australian government was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.

“There were just too many risks in the model put forward by Cricket Australia. We need to remain vigilant and do the right thing by all Western Australians and not take unnecessary chance” he added.

According to Cricket Australia’s initial plans, Indian and Australian players were slated to be based and train in a relaxed quarantine environment of Perth. The BCCI had even requested Cricket Australia to allow its players to train during the quarantine which is not possible in the Western Australian city.

”We acknowledge the WA government has a firm position on quarantine and border arrangements,” a CA spokesperson said.

“The Australian men’s team will not be quarantining in Perth upon their return from the UK.” he added.

Cricket Australia is likely to come up with the revised schedule of the series this week.
