The current Team India head coach Ravi Shastri and former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly doesn’t share a best of the relations. It is well known that Ganguly was not impressed when Shastri spent holidays in Thailand after he had applied for the post of head coach.
In fact, the head coach post was handed over to Anil Kumble at that time.
Meanwhile, their bitter relation goes a long way back. Shastri recollected an incident when Ganguly was late for the Indian team’s departure.
Thus, Shastri who was team’s manager in 2007 decided to leave Ganguly at the hotel and told him to come by car.
Shastri and Ganguly don’t share the best of relations:
In fact, Ganguly is well-known for his poor punctuality. Interestingly, Australia’s skipper Steve Waugh had to wait for 10 minutes for Sourav Ganguly at the toss.
Meanwhile, Ravi Shastri said that he likes to build the right habits in the current Indian team.
The former Indian all-rounder said while talking to Gaurav Kapur on his show Breakfast with Champions, “I’m never the one to give excuses. For me, decency demands that you’re punctual. It’s a great quality to have, especially when you’re involved with a team. Even in the Indian team, punctuality is paramount. If the bus is scheduled to leave at 9, it will leave at 9″.
Shastri added he decided to leave Dada at the hotel as he was late for the departure of the team.
Ravi went on add, “This was in Bangladesh back in 2007 when I became the manager. The first practice session was in Chittagong. We were supposed to leave at 9 and when I suggested we should leave, the local managers said Dada (Sourav Ganguly) didn’t arrive as yet. I said Dada can come in a car, let’s leave”.
Ravi Shastri added he was able to teach a successful lesson to the Prince of Kolkata.
Consequently, Ganguly was always 10 minutes ahead of time after this incident. However, Shastri was successful in his approach.
