Dinesh Karthik shared his embarrassing story with Gaurav Kapur on his show, Breakfast with Champions.

The Tamil Nadu batsman slipped on Sourav Ganguly while carrying drinks in his young days of International cricket. Ganguly was then the Indian captain and Karthik had to face the aftermath.

Meanwhile, the last couple of months had been good for Dinesh Karthik. The stylish right-hander had led India to an emphatic win in the Nidahas trophy final against Bangladesh.

The Men in Blue had their backs against the wall, and the wicketkeeper-batsman was able to rescue India from troubled waters.

Furthermore, Dinesh Karthik also led Kolkata Knight Riders with aplomb in the recently concluded IPL. Karthik had provided the finishing touches to the franchise and took them to the playoffs stage.

Karthik shared an interesting story when he was the 12th man in Champions Trophy. India was playing against their arch-rivals Pakistan.

However, when a Pakistan wicket went down, Karthik came to the ground to offer drinks to his teammates. Unfortunately, he slipped and fell on then India’s skipper Sourav Ganguly.

“I was just 18 back then and I was trying to make my way into the side. It was the India-Pakistan match in the Champions Trophy. Pakistan had a brilliant partnership and they were inching closer towards the target and out of the blue, India got a wicket. It was a big wicket and everyone was pumped up. Dada (Ganguly) was leading the hurdle.

I was a substitute in that game and I had to carry drinks to the players. I was running towards the players to give them drinks and accidentally, I slipped and fell on Dada. He got frustrated and yelled, “Where do you get these players from, who is he?”

That incident also earned Karthik a nickname. “I feel I got away from that incident being a youngster. They started calling me Chota Cheeka after that game,” said Karthik.

It must have been an odd situation for the youngster. Meanwhile, Dinesh Karthik is currently with the Indian team on their ongoing tour to England.
