Former Australia cricketer Mike Hussey had the luxury of playing under two of the best captains in the world – Ricky Ponting and MS Dhoni. While Ponting captained Hussey in Australia team, the former Aussie cricketer played under Dhoni in the Chennai Super Kings in IPL.
Ponting and Dhoni have been two of the best skippers of the 21st century. Their technical acumen and game reading abilities make them the very best among a lot. While Ricky Ponting jointly holds the record for most ODI World Cup wins, MS Dhoni is the only captain to have won all major ICC trophies – ODI, T20I World Cups, Champions Trophy. The former India skipper also has the Asia Cup title to his name.
Recently, Mike Hussey was asked to pick the better ODI captain between Ponting and Dhoni. The former Australia cricketer termed it as a difficult choice before picking his countrymen as the best. Hussey also said that he hasn’t played any ODI matches under Dhoni so he preferred Ricky Ponting.
“It’s a tough one, well, I will have to say, Ricky. I never played in ODIs with MS Dhoni, so I will go with Ricky,” Hussey said in an interview.
Mike Hussey has been a part of the 2007 World Cup winning Australia squad under the leadership of Ricky Ponting. On the other hand, Hussey has spent six seasons under MS Dhoni in the Chennai Super Kings. He also has won two IPL titles in 2011 and 2012 with the side.
