Windies chased down the revised target of 91 in 11 overs for a comfortable seven-wicket victory to go 1-0 up in the T20I series after Bangladesh posted 143 runs at the halfway mark.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh looked good for a competitive total for the first half of their innings after put in to bat first. However, they slowed down later on, meant they only set the Windies a target of 144.

Then, with Andre Russell and Marlon Samuels calling the shots, the Windies got past the target in just 9.1 overs. Rovman Powell finished the job with a straight six off Shakib Al Hasan.

However, the rain spoiled the game time twice, once during the chase and during the start which prevented it from starting it at the scheduled time.

The home team didn’t have a good start while chasing, as they lost both their openers cheaply. Evin Lewis departed first, sending one to Liton Das at deep point, and Andre Fletcher next, nicking behind to Mushfiqur Rahim, both of Mustafizur Rahman.

That left the Windies at 10/2, but the reigning T20I champions picked up the chase from there. Andre Russell at one drop and the experienced Marlon Samuels steadying the ship. The two of them put on 42 runs in just under four overs before Samuels departed after a quickfire 13-ball 26 knock. Russell and Powell saw it through for the Windies without much fuss.

Russell struck three fours and three sixes in a frenetic 21-ball 35*, while Powell finished on 15* with two sixes.

The Bangladesh innings began on the worst note possible, with both openers sent back by Ashley Nurse for first-ball ducks. At 5/2, Liton Das and Shakib-Al Hasan had a big job to do.

The duo did a good job to take Bangladesh to 43 by the sixth over. But Das top-edged a pull off Keemo Paul to Fletcher at deep square-leg to leave for a 21-ball 24, and Shakib fell next ball.

Bangladesh stitched another decent partnership with Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah adding 47 for the fifth wicket in four overs.

Since Williams sent back Rahim for 15, things started going off the rails for Bangladesh. The visitors managed to score just 48 runs off the last ten overs with Williams returning for 4/28.

The two teams will now travel to Florida for the second and third T20Is at Lauderhill.
