West Indies have recalled Shimron Hetmyer in their ODI squad for the ongoing home series against New Zealand. This comes after the left-handed batter made return to the T20I squad in the five-match series against India.

Hetmyer was out of the West Indies’ plans since the T20 World Cup 2021 in UAE in November last year. He is likely to play his first ODI match since July 2021, when West Indies faced Australia in a three-match series.

West Indies on Friday named a 14-member squad for three ODI matches against the Black Caps. Guyanese off-spinner Kevin Sinclair, who has played six T20I games for the national team, is likely to make his debut in the 50-over format this month.

As we stated before, we are looking to broaden the pool of players, and we have decided to give Sinclair an opportunity in the CG United ODI Series against New Zealand,” chief selector Desmond Haynes said.

“He has been in the system for a while and was also in the ‘A Team’ to play against Bangladesh ‘A’ in the upcoming series. We believe with his calm approach and skills he will do well in the matches against New Zealand.

Gudakesh Motie to clear fitness test on his ODI return

Left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie suffered a finger injury in the first ODI against India last month and subsequently missed the remaining games of the series. The Guyana bowler has been named in the squad subject to clearing a fitness test.

Leg-spinner Hayden Walsh Jr, who replaced Motie in the India ODIs, has been dropped from the squad. Power-hitting player Rovman Powell and bowling all-rounder Romario Shepherd have also been left out.

Meanwhile, spin bowling all-rounders Roston Chase (injury) and Fabian Allen (personal reasons) were unavailable for the selection.
