Bangladesh completed a fine victory against hosts Windies in the third and the deciding One-day International against Windies to seal the series by a 2-1 margin. For the second time in the series, star batsman Tamim Iqbal scored a brilliant century which helped Bangladesh post a competitive score of 301 runs.

On the other side, Shakib Al Hasan and Mashrafe Mortaza scored crucial runs which eventually helped Bangladesh-post something substantial on the board.

Mahmudullah Riyad played a vital role to take Bangladesh to 301. He scored a quickfire 69 off 45 deliveries which provided the much-needed impetus to the visiting side.

For the hosts, Chris Gayle and Rovman Powell were the top scorers. They batted brilliantly for individual scores of 73 and 74 respectively. However, their partners weren’t able to score quickly enough which led to their defeat.

Mahmudullah also stroked his way to 69 and played a vital role towards the later part of the innings.

Windies batted well in patches. Chris Gayle and Rovman Powell scored 70-odd in quick time. However, the visiting bowlers held their nerves and won the clash by 18 runs. Bangladesh lost Anamul Haque was dismissed early.

Tamim Iqbal played the sheet anchor’s role to perfection. He accumulated runs steadily.

Mahmudullah came in the middle order and smashed his way to 69 off just 45 deliveries. It was a sensational knock, to say the least. Skipper Mashrafe Mortaza also chipped in with a useful 37 off 25 deliveries. Bangladesh eventually reached a competitive total in the end.

Windies started off pretty well. Openers Gayle and Evin Lewis shared a half-century partnership before the wicket of Lewis.

Gayle looked in great touch. He was eventually dismissed on 73 off 66 deliveries. Shai Hope chipped in with a crucial 64.

However, his individual score came in 94 deliveries which brought down the scoring rate quite a bit.

Wickets kept falling in crucial intervals as Bangladesh piled on the pressure on the hosts. It was a great knock by Rovman Powell which kept Windies in the match. He remained unbeaten on 74 off just 41 deliveries which included five fours and four sixes.

The hosts eventually batted out the 50 overs for 283 runs. It was a much-needed victory for Bangladesh after losing the Test series by a 2-0 margin.

“Didn’t have a great Test series personally. We put a lot of effort in the practice. This is a format we are comfortable with,” Iqbal said.

 

“My team asked me to bat long; this was the plan. It’s not easy to bat here in West Indies. You need to spend a lot of time. Patience is the key,” Iqbal stated.
