England opener Jason Roy and their Test captain Joe Root were the architects in their team’s emphatic win against the Windies in the first ODI at Barbados. The visitors had to climb the mountain of 360 runs and they reached the summit with six wickets and eight deliveries to spare. Chris Gayle, who has announced his ODI retirement went berserk after Jason Holder won the toss and decided to bat first.

John Campbell who had impressed in the recently concluded Test series also impressed on his ODI debut. The Windies opener was able to hit the ground running as he scored 30 off 28 balls. Campbell was the dominant partner in the opening alliance of 38 runs. Meanwhile, Windies talented batsman Shai Hope and Chris Gayle added a partnership of 131 runs for the second wicket. Hope scored almost at a run-a-ball (64 off 65) to keep the impetus.

Gayle who is known for his penchant of hitting sixes, smashed a dozen maximums to leave England bowlers scratching their heads. It was a monstrous inning from the combative southpaw as he scored 135 off 129 balls.

Meanwhile, the stylish Darren Bravo scored 40 runs off just 30 balls laced with two fours and four maximums. The Windies spinner Ashley Nurse added the finishing touches as he scored a quickfire 8-ball 25 to help his team post a gargantuan total of 360 runs.

On the other hand, Ben Stokes was the most impressive England bowler. The talisman all-rounder scalped three wickets and conceded 37 runs in his eight overs. Adil Rashid also took three wickets but the leg-spinner had to take the beating from the host’s batsmen. Woakes took two wickets for the guests.

Eoin Morgan has inculcated the winning habits in his ODI side. Set them any imposing target, they have become the masters of the run-chase. They bat deep and once again they went all guns blazing after the run-chase.

Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy gave their side the kind of start they wanted badly to get to the arduous total. The openers added 91 runs to lay down the foundation. Subsequently, Jason Roy and Joe Root added 114 runs for the second wicket. Roy was the aggressor as the right-hander smashed 15 fours and three sixes in his blistering knock to score 123 off just 85 balls.

Root, who is the glue of the England batting line-up batted as he was supposed to do. The linchpin scored 102 off just 97 to continue his sublime form going. Furthermore, England captain Eoin Morgan came out with a quickfire inning of 65 runs off just 51 balls with the help of four fours and three sixes. Morgan’s innings helped the tourists in getting close to the target.

Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler then took their side over the line with ease. On the other hand, the Windies bowlers looked helpless against the onslaught of the England batsmen.
