Wisden has rated Rohit Sharma’s blistering knock of 264 runs as the best ODI innings of the decade. Rohit was at his best absolute best against Sri Lanka in the fourth ODI of the 2014 series. In fact, the right-hander was not able to hit the ground running as he meandered to 12 runs off the first 25 balls. However, once Rohit was settled, there was no turning back for the right-hander.
Rohit’s gargantuan knock came off 173 balls as he scored 33 fours and smashed nine sixes in his daddy knock. The talisman scored his runs at a strike rate of 152.60 as he showed no mercy to the Sri Lankan bowlers. It was Rohit’s second double century in the 50-overs fold and he is the only batsman to score three double centuries.

Rohit was at his absolute best.
The right-hander helped India in posting a mammoth score of 404 runs which they easily defended by 153 runs. Sri Lanka could only manage 251 runs as they could even go past Rohit’s individual score.
The linchpin changed gears beautifully after he got settled. The Mumbai batsman drove his innings in the topmost gear and there were no speed breakers in his knock. The right-hander was able to turn the tables in the 2010s and he was a different batsman altogether after he got the opportunity to open the innings in the 2013 Champions Trophy.

Rohit is currently one of the best ODI batsmen in the world and he was also able to grab his opportunity in the Test fold recently. The Indian opener has thus far scored 8686 runs at an average of 48.52 and a strike rate of 88.57 in the ODI format. The match-winner also scored a blistering knock of 71 runs off just 34 balls in the decider against the West Indies at his home ground of Wankhede Stadium.
India will next play the WIndies in three-match ODI series with the first match to be played in Chennai on 15th December.
