With India Struggling In England, Fans Urge MS Dhoni To Return To Test Team
With every failure of the Indian team in overseas Tests, the fans’ desperation to see MS Dhoni in the whites is only elevating. The former India skipper had quit the longest format of the game after the tour of Australia in 2014-15.
It was a decision that had shocked the entire cricketing world. However, the fans did not miss him much initially as Virat Kohli led the team superbly. The Kohli-era began with a historic Test series win in Sri Lanka. It was followed by series wins against South Africa, New Zealand, England, Bangladesh, Australia and Sri Lanka at home. The team also won series in Sri Lanka and West Indies.
Overall, India won a record nine consecutive series under Kohli. As a result, the team rose to the pinnacle of Test cricket. However, Kohli & Co. are now struggling to live up to the expectations while playing in tough conditions. Earlier this year, South Africa beat India 2-1 and the team is now in a similar position against England in the ongoing five-match series.
India lost the first Test by 31 runs with the batsmen making a mess of an 194-run chase. The team is also looking set to lose the ongoing second game at Lord’s. In the first innings, India were all out for just 107. In reply, England were 357 for 6 at the end of day three.
And with yet another failure in overseas conditions, the fans have urged Dhoni to return to the Test side. In fact, such is there desperation that they made their feelings clear on a tweet where Dhoni posted a video of himself enjoying a bath under a waterfall.
