Women's T20 Challenge 2020: Jaipur To Host Tournament During IPL 2020 Playoff Week

The Women’s T20 Challenge will return to Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur with a fourth team. The competition is to be held during the upcoming IPL 2020 Playoff week and will stage seven matches involving some of the top players in the world. Started in 2018, the tournament was an instant success. It grabbed the right eyeballs one year later with three matches.
In 2019, the Women’s T20 Challenge was expanded from a One-off match before an IPL qualifier to a week-long tournament with three teams – Trailblazers, Supernovas and Velocity. There were three group games and a final in the inaugural edition.

However, this time, a total of seven matches will be played in the tournament during the Indian Premier League (IPL) Playoff week at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.
The Women’s T20 Challenge will have one addition this time around. Instead of three, the competition will feature four teams.

“As part of its ongoing commitment to growing the women’s game, BCCI are pleased to announce the 2020 Women’s T20 Challenge. The tournament which started in 2018 and was a huge success, further garnered all the right eyeballs in the year to follow.
“The 2019 games, comprising three teams were played at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur during the IPL Playoff and Finals week. The tournament was played with great intensity which saw the winner of 2019 WT20 Challenge being decided over the last ball of the match.

The fourth team, fixtures, names of players and the participating countries are yet to be announced.
The 13th edition of the Vivo IPL 2020 starts from March 29 with defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) taking on the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Wankhede Stadium.

“2020 aims to be no different and this edition will see a 4th team added to the tournament. The WT20 Challenge this year will feature some of the world’s best women cricketers and will have 7 matches played during the IPL Playoff week at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur,” the BCCI said in a release.
The teams will comprise current and future stars of Indian cricket playing alongside a selection of the world’s best players. The combined strength of talent on display will showcase the quality of women’s cricket, which will pave the way for women IPL.
