Just a couple of days ahead of India’s World Cup-opener, their pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah was taken for a doping test on Monday. Dope control official took the pacer for conducting a test during the team’s practice session at the Rose Bowl stadium in Southampton. Bumrah had to undergo two tests.

In the first one, he had to give a urine test before undergoing the second test 45 minutes later. In the second test, the officials took his blood samples. Under every ICC event, every Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) player has to undergo a doping test conducted by the World Anti-Doping Agency.

According to ANI, a BCCI source confirmed that WADA took Bumrah for a doping test. However, the source did not reveal whether any other player is scheduled to undergo a doping test. Bumrah and his teammates, meanwhile, will have their focus firmly on Wednesday’s clash against South Africa in Southampton. India are the last team to start their campaign in the World Cup.

India’s fortunes will depend a lot on Bumrah. The pacer recently showcased his worth by bowling a superb spell in the Indian Premier League final. He picked up 2 wickets while conceding just 14 runs in his four overs, helping Mumbai Indians beat Chennai Super Kings by just one run in a thrilling final. Unsurprisingly, all eyes will be on Bumrah when India takes the field in the World cup-opener.

India, meanwhile, will be the favourites for the clash. The two-time winner enter the contest on the back of a thumping 95-run win over Bangladesh in the warm-up clash. On the other hand, South Africa have lost both of their opening two games. They lost their first game by 104 runs against England before Bangladesh stunned them by 21 runs.
