Wriddhiman Saha is all set to board the flight for England. But unfortunately, he is going to the country for a surgery and not for the upcoming Test series.

India’s Test wicketkeeper is currently out of action due to a shoulder injury and needs surgery to recover from it. He will leave for Manchester tomorrow night (early hours of July 30). Yogesh Parmar, an assistant physio at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) will accompany the 33-year old.

As per BCCI’s statement,  Saha is suffering from a right shoulder injury, which in the medical parlance is called, posterosuperior labral tear.

The surgery is likely to take place either on August 6 or 7. The date of the surgery will be finalised after Saha meets Dr Lennard Funk in Manchester.  Saha’s duration of stay in Manchester will be for about 12-14 days with Parmar. The duo is likely to return to the country on August 12 or 13.

The confusion around Saha’s shoulder injury had caused quite a stir in Indian cricket. He was initially sidelined with a thumb injury he had sustained in the Indian Premier League. The Bengal star subsequently missed the final of the competition. He also didn’t feature in the one-off Test against Afghanistan. But he was expected to be fit in time for the upcoming Test series against England.  However, the BCCI later revealed that the keeper-batsman is suffering from a shoulder injury.

The latest injury can also jeopardise the tour of Australia towards the end of the year for Saha. He has already suffered several setbacks this year and would be desperate to return to action soon.

After he scored 0 and 8 in the first Test of the year, against South Africa in Cape Town, he suffered a hamstring injury and was sent home. He could not even play in the final of IPL and missed the Test against Afghanistan.
