India Test wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha had a successful surgery on his right ring finger after injuring it during the historic Kolkata Test against Bangladesh. The Bengal star, who took some stunning catches in the game, had fractured the finger during the pink ball Test. On some occasions, the ball had moved unexpectedly but Saha was up to the task almost every time.
The BCCI confirmed that the wicketkeeper had to undergo surgery in Mumbai on Tuesday. The surgery was successful and Wriddhman Saha will start his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
“Team India wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha sustained a fracture on his right ring finger during the recently concluded Pink ball Test in Kolkata against Bangladesh. The BCCI Medical Team consulted a hand and wrist specialist and it was suggested that Saha undergoes a surgical fixation of the fracture,” stated BCCI.
“Subsequently, he underwent a successful surgery in Mumbai on Tuesday and will soon commence his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy, Bengaluru,” it added.

The latest injury has further extended the 35-year old’s issues with injuries. Since 2018, Saha has suffered a string of injuries. He was sent home with a hamstring injury after playing the first Test of the year against South Africa in Cape Town last year.
During the IPL he had injured his thumb, which was believed to be the reason for his missing the Afghanistan Test in June in 2018. But later it was revealed that he had a more serious shoulder injury (posterosuperior labral tear) for which he underwent a surgery in United Kingdom. He made his comeback to international cricket during the tour of West Indies this summer.
Enough time for Wriddhiman Saha:
Wriddhiman Saha, meanwhile, will have enough time to recover from the injury ahead of India’s next Test assignment. India will play their next series in New Zealand in February. The series will start on February 21. He is likely to retain his place in the playing eleven ahead of Rishabh Pant for the challenging tour.
Saha has already proved his credentials with some stunning work with the gloves in the home season. Recently, he also reached the milestone of 100 dismissals in the longest format, becoming the fifth Indian wicket-keeper to do so on the way.
