Senior Pakistan leg-spinner Yasir Shah is ready to unleash his googlies on the English batsmen. But he also has a special dream to achieve in England in the upcoming series. The visiting Pakistan side are in England for a Test and T20I series, which will get underway from July 30 with the T20I series concluding in the first week of September.
The tour will mark return for Pakistan cricket in international arena after the brief hiatus due to the pandemic. England, meanwhile, are currently hosting the West Indies in the first of three match Test series which mark their return to international circuit after the break enforced due to the pandemic.
Yasir Shah has hit his only Test century in Adelaide. Apart from working on his googlies, he is also looking to step up for the side with his batting skills. Shah, 34, is working on his batting at the nets and targets of scoring a century against England, taking inspiration from his knock at Adelaide where he scored 113 runs.
“Counties usually sign spinners for July to September because, in these three months, spinners get help on dry wickets. So I am hopeful that the wickets will assist the spinners,” Yasir Shah told reporters.
“I am working on my batting in the nets,” said the tailender.
“When the team needs you, you need to step up. So I do have a target, of scoring a century in England. If I can hit a hundred at Adelaide, I can do it here as well.”
Yasir Shah has an average of nearly 14 with the bat in Tests and picked up 213 wickets in the longest format of the game. He will be a crucial cog for the visiting side in the longest format against England.
