Former India pacer Irfan Pathan hailed RP Singh after the latter announced his retirement from all forms of cricket.

RP Singh, on Monday, brought down curtains on his career after playing for exactly 13 years. He made his debut for India in an ODI against Zimbabwe in 2005 in Harare and made an instant impact by picking up a couple of wickets.

Overall, he represented India in 14 Tests, 58 ODIs and 10 T20Is, picking 40, 69 and 15 wickets respectively.

He also enjoyed a successful career at the domestic level.  RP Singh played 94 first-class games and 136 List A games, picking 301 and 190 wickets respectively. He was a part of the Gujarat team that won the Ranji Trophy in 2016-17.

RP Singh also enjoyed some memorable moments in the national jersey. He was the joint second-highest wicket-taker (12 wickets in seven matches at an economy rate of 6.33) in India’s dream run to the World T20 title in 2007.

In the same year, he made his test debut in Pakistan. It was however the tour of England later that year that he justified the faith shown in him. He managed his first 5-wicket haul at the Lord’s and helped the team register a historic series win. It was India’s first Test series win in England in 21 years. In the very next year, his six-wicket match haul helped India beat Australia at Perth.

In 2009, he topped the wicket charts in the IPL (23 wickets in 16 matches at an economy rate of 6.98) and led Deccan Chargers to the title.
