Over the years, Mike Hussey has made a great contact with the people of Chennai. He acquired a huge fan base in southern part of India by playing for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Indian Premier League (IPL) under the leadership of Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
Meanwhile, he started his stint in the ongoing Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL). Veteran Australian batsman Hussey while promoting TNPL, expressed his happiness for the comeback of the Kings after a two-year suspension.
Hussey picks the tournament favourites to lift trophy:
During the course, the stylish southpaw was asked to predict the favourites of this year’s edition. Though Hussey managed to watch only three to four matches, he picked up his teams certainly with a reason.
The classy Australian felt sorry for Dindigul Dragons as they lost the services of ace-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. The experienced off-spinner not only bowled beautifully but also led the team in his own way of success.
“Well, it’s hard to judge as its really tight. I guess a couple of teams struggled a bit – Chennai Super Gillies and VB Veerans. But, all the other teams are quite close. On any given day, they can beat each other. It’s going to be a good fight. Dindigul Dragons are playing pretty well at the moment; they have got a bit of momentum going their way. But, I wouldn’t discount the other teams,” Hussey said.
”Ashwin flying to England is definitely a big loss for the Dragons. To lose a player of his calibre and that too a captain! He bowled well during the middle overs; it’s going to be difficult. But, I still think they have got enough quality in their team to cover as N Jagadeesan (who was with the Chennai Super Kings, during this IPL) is leading the pack. He is an exciting player,” he added.
It’s just two innings, come on! Hussey answered
Recently, MS Dhoni had one of the bad tours in his career when India toured England. He went under a lot of criticism for the slow knocks when the required rate is quite high.
However, Mike Hussey doesn’t feel right in judging a player like Mahendra Singh Dhoni based on those two performances. He opined that Dhoni will play a huge role in India’s World Cup chances.
“It’s just two innings, come on! We know how MS plays; he takes some time in the middle. He has got the power to catch up in the end. He plays according to the situation. I wouldn’t be reading too much into it. He has been a great player for such a long time and his experience will play a crucial role in the upcoming World Cup, especially, his keeping skills and his power at the end of the innings. You should never write off a champion player,” Hussey signed off while speaking to Times of India.
However, it has been quite a time for Hussey at TNPL. With the company of his Australian compatriots, he is having a ball in the southern spicy part of India.
