Yuvraj Singh was one of the spearheads in India winning the inaugural World Twenty20 in South Africa back in 2007. The left-hander was in swashbuckling form throughout the tournament and one of the many feats that he achieved during that tournament, one that will always be a part of the folklore is when he stroked England’s Stuart Board for six sixes in an over, en-route to his 12-ball half-century.

Prior to that World Cup, Yuvraj had had to face the ignominy of getting smoked for five sixes in a row in an ODI game against England by Dimitri Mascarenhas. But the southpaw, in a recent chat with Sports Tak, revealed that was not the reason behind his motivation to do what he eventually did.

In-fact, it was the tussle with English all-rounder Andrew Flintoff that spurred on the former World Cup-winner.

“To be honest it was not on my mind to hit 5 sixes. But my argument will Flintoff got me infuriated,” Yuvraj Singh told Sports Tak.

Yuvraj added: “I hat hit Flintoff for 2 boundaries on good deliveries and he did not like it. And after that over when I was walking to the other end. I can’t repeat exactly what he said. He told me that those were some ridiculous shots. So I asked him what did he say and had a confrontation.”

And this what followed next:

Flintoff: I will cut your throat off!

Yuvraj: You see this bat in my hand. You know where I am gonna hit you with this bat?

Yuvraj added that post the tussle he had decided to send every ball out of the park, which is exactly what he did.

“So the umpire interrupted us but I was very pumped after that argument and I had decided that I have to send every ball out of the park now. Luckily it was my day,” Yuvraj recalled.

In the very next over, Yuvraj hit the first six off Broad towards deep-midwicket. The next one over deep square-leg, the third one over wide long-off, the fourth over deep-backward point, the penultimate one over deep square-leg before going for the full monty towards deep midwicket.

Yuvraj’s six sixes and an eventual 16-ball 58 propelled India to a match-winning 4-218. And, even though Flintoff dismissed him in the next over after getting smoked for a six, the damage had already been done.
