Indian cricket has been blessed with a plethora of great captains over the years and while each of them had their set of strengths and weakness, it’s hard to look past ‘Prince of Kolkata’ Sourav Ganguly when it comes to instilling a killer instinct among the group.

Sourav Ganguly

was appointed the captain of the team when Indian cricket was in absolute shambles. The match-fixing saga had put a blot on its image, with fans questioning the integrity of the team and its players.

Sourav wanted to change this. He wanted to regain the trust of the fans and the only way to do that was by putting up good performances on a consistent basis. Sourav started grooming and backing young talents like Yuvraj Singh, Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra, Mohammad Kaif, all of whom went on to become match-winners in years to follow.

Yuvraj added that Ganguly inspired his players to play with passion and integrity and also infused a killer-instinct in the team.

The Indian team has been lucky to be led by people like Sourav, MS Dhoni and Virat and the team’s performance talks for itself. They are all great and visionary leaders. Sourav has always supported me and I hold immense respect in my heart for him,” Yuvraj Singh told timesnewsnow.com.

He also stated that Ganguly would take a fall for his players in front of the authorities, adding that the former captain was a leader in ‘true sense’.

“As a leader, Sourav had a special ability to instil confidence in his players and made us believe that we can win on international grounds. He led from the front, inspired us to play with aggression yet maintain the integrity and took a fall for us in front of the authorities. He was a team player and a leader in true sense,” he added.
