Yuvraj Singh is in Chandigarh, helping to groom quite a few young talents, including the likes of Shubman Gill. Yuvraj Singh has been named as the mentor for 21-day training camp by the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) and is helping the young talents learn better. The list of young players also include Anmolpreet Singh and Abhishek Sharma among a few others.
Opening up on the alleged abuse Shubman Gill fired on the umpire during the Ranji trophy last season to get a decision overturned during a Punjab vs Delhi match, Yuvraj Singh said backed the youngster. Gill was seen not leaving the pitch for around 10 minutes after being given out by the umpire for caught-behind by bowler Subodh Bhati. Gill was also docked 100 per cent of his match fee as rumours suggested that he abused umpire Mohammad Rafi.
“I was there at the ground during the match. He never abused anyone,” Yuvraj. Singh told Hindustan Times. “He just questioned the decision. Sometimes batsmen do that. Look, he is young and hungry to do well. When I started playing, I too experienced such incidents. And if a player makes a mistake, he will rectify it. He is a special talent.”
Gill is one of the future of the Indian cricket team along side Prithvi Shaw. He has proved to be a better opener than a No.4 batsman in the T20s and Tests. The Punjab batsman has also played some crucial knocks at the top of the order for KKR.
