Former India batsman Yuvraj Singh sympathised with New Zealand after their heartbreaking loss to England in the final of the World Cup 2019. At the end of the 50 overs, the scoreboard could not separate the two teams. Both sides scored 241 from their 50 overs, meaning they had to bat again for six balls each.

In the super over, England scored 15. Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler hit one four each in the one-over to make sure Jofra Archer has a decent total to defend. Archer, however, started poorly as he conceded a wide before being hit for a double and a huge six by James Neesham. The equation was finally down to 2 off the last ball. But New Zealand opener Martin Guptill, who was facing his first ball of the over, managed just one and was run-out while he was trying to take the double.

That meant the super over scores were tied, and England won on virtue of having scored more boundaries in the match. And as soon as the match ended, India star Yuvraj Singh took to Twitter to slam the rule book.

The World Cup-winning star, who lost the World Cup final in 2003, congratulated England before sparing a thought for the Kiwis.

“I don’t agree with that rule ! But rules are rules congratulations to England on finally winning the World Cup , my heart goes out for the kiwis they fought till the end ?. Great game an epic final !!!! #CWC19Final,” wrote Yuvraj Singh.

England, meanwhile, won their first ever World Cup after losing four finals. This was their first appearance in the final since 1992. New Zealand, on the other hand, suffered their second consecutive loss in the World Cup final. In 2015, they had lost to Australia in a lopsided final.
