Yuzvendra Chahal has replaced injured all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja as a concussion substitute in the ongoing T20I between India and Australia at the Manuka Oval in Canberra.

Jadeja, who suffered a blow on his helmet while batting, did not take the field in Australia’s run-chase.

The BCCI Twitter handle posted the update that read:

“UPDATE: Ravindra Jadeja was hit on the helmet in the final over of the first innings of the first T20I. Yuzvendra Chahal will take the field in the 2nd innings as a concussion substitute. Jadeja is currently being assessed by the BCCI Medical Team. #TeamIndia #AUSvIND

Ravindra Jadeja suffered the injury during the 2oth over of the Indian innings. The all-rounder, however, played a whirlwind knock as he smoked Hazlewood for six and two boundaries before taking Mitchell Starc apart for consecutive boundaries in the last over. Jadeja stroked a whirlwind 23-ball 44, helping India post a competitive 7-161 after 20 overs.

As far as his replacement is concerned, according to the concussion rules, Yuzvendra Chahal will be eligible to bowl his quota of four overs. Meanwhile, Australia has got off to a blazing start to their run-chase with skipper Aaron Finch and D’Arcy Short taking the Indian bowlers to the cleaners in the powerplay. At the time of writing, the Aussies were 0-45 after 5 overs.
