Having a bowling legend like Zaheer Khan in the Mumbai Indians set-up in a boon for the youngsters who looked up to him and leg-spinner Rahul Chahar is making the most of it. Chahar has done well in the last couple of years for Mumbai Indians and established himself as a front-line leg-spinner.

The shortest format of the game has traditionally seen leg-spinners becoming successful. And Chahar, growing into his game, has started to look like what Rashid Khan is for SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Yuzvendra Chahal for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

I go to Zaheer bhaiyaa from last year and follow whatever he tell me: Rahul Chahar

Chahar said that he has been taking advice from Mumbai Indians director of cricket Zaheer Khan from last year and understands his guidance. He also mentioned that the former India fast bowler understands his type of bowling and at times sits for hours when he is bowling at the nets.

“I go to Zaheer Bhaiyya (Zaheer Khan), because from last year, whatever he is telling me I can understand. He understands my type of bowling too and sometimes he sits for an hour when I am bowling.

“Last year he took a separate session with me and told me the problems and solutions and I always go to him.

“Initially I was bowling safe balls, I wasn’t attacking, but he kept on telling me that you are an attacking bowler and can take wickets, go attack, don’t worry if you are hit for a six, he gives me confidence and says bowl freely,” the young spinner said.

Chahar has taken 11 wickets in nine games with a decent economy rate of 7.40 in the IPL 2020 thus far. He also mentioned that the slow pitches in UAE has helped him attack the batsmen more often through his variations.
