Not very long ago, quality fast-bowlers were a rare commodity in Indian cricket. While India never had to struggle for quality batsmen and spinners, they never really had the luxury of good fast-bowlers. There were the likes of Kapil Dev, Stuart Binny, Zaheer Khan, Javagal Srinath but the number was just too less.

However, times have changed now. India are now brimming with fast-bowling talents with the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav making India’s attack a formidable one. There are also the likes of Navdeep Saini, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur who are desperate to make a mark at the highest stage.

But the last few years have seen a number of quality pacers emerging and making their mark. And Zaheer Khan feels that this is an exciting time to be a fast bowler in India. “These are exciting times to be a fast bowler in India. The likes of Bumrah, Shami, Ishant, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Navdeep Saini among others have proven the fact that the current Indian team is a powerhouse of bowling and it is by far the best bowling attack in the world,” Zaheer Khan told IANS.

“It feels fantastic as a fast bowler and I hope they keep putting in the hard work and maintain the rhythm which has seen them achieve results,” he added.

The legendary pacer further said that the current lot of the pacers is the best India ever had. He also said that it would be interesting to see the combination India use for the upcoming Test series against South Africa. The hosts will be without Bumrah who is out with a stress fracture.

“The current pool of fast bowlers is the best India has ever had for sure. I feel India is already a side a watch out for in the world as far as fast bowling is concerned. I am looking forward to this series to see the kind of combination they go in with because generally you have seen two spinners being played even if there is help for the fast bowlers,” said Zaheer Khan.
