Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has weighed on Rohit Sharma selection saga ahead of the upcoming tour of Australia. The selectors left out Rohit Sharma initially out of all three squads with little explanation, underlining that his fitness would be monitored. With the 33-year old playing the last three fixtures in IPL for Mumbai Indians, Sanjay Manjrekar understands nothing on Rohit Sharma’s fitness.

Rohit Sharma suffered a hamstring injury in IPL 2020 that ruled out of a few games amid which the selectors announced the squad. He returned to the league’s last match and revealed that everything was fine, going on to play till the final of the tournament. The selectors added the right-handed batsman to India’s red-ball squad late since it emerged that Virat Kohli will return home after the first Test itself. Nevertheless, as per recent developments, the men in blue have left for Australia with Rohit and Ishant Sharma scheduled to join them later.

Sanjay Manjreaker revealed having no clarity on Rohit Sharma’s fitness but expects BCCI and Rohit to have a valid stand on it. According to Manjrekar, it often happens that when there is less information, the room for speculation arises.

There’s zero clarity on the issue of Rohit Sharma’s fitness. I am sure there must be a stand of BCCI and similarly that of Rohit. And when people don’t information, then speculation arises. So, I absolutely have no clarity whatsoever what’s going on there,” Manjrekar told while speaking on Pakistani YouTube channel CricCast.

The 55-year old remains confident that Rohit Sharma would be coming into the reckoning when fit and talented cricketer Suryakumar Yadav will get a chance too. Sanjay Manjrekar identified with four or five players under the scanner due to fitness or other issues could most likely get the nod.

“I have no doubt that Rohit Sharma will be playing when he gets fit. Suryakumar Yadav will also get a chance somewhere on the tour as is often happens that some injuries take place and replacements are called. I think four or five players who have not been selected due to fitness or some other issues, they will be playing in the upcoming tour,” the former batsman added.
