After the impressive performance for the team across the format, the Zimbabwe Cricket Board decided to retain the services of Hamilton Masakadza. He will be leading the side across the formats once again for his country. Meanwhile, Peter Moor has been given the promotion to become the vice-captain of the side.
The appointments of Masakadza and Moor were among the resolutions passed by ZC’s board of directors, and included appointing a team manager and confirming a three-man selection panel.
Peter Moor named vice-captain:
Surprisingly, Hamilton Masakadza never tasted success despite leading the team in ODI for 20 times. However, under his captaincy, the team players raised their performance graph and also attained the name across the globe.
In Test assignment against Bangladesh, Masakadza managed to draw the series. Perhaps, it might have pushed the board to stick with him for one more time. Meanwhile, the rise of Peter Moor as a batsman has been impressive. In between, it is surprising to see that Sikandar Raza hasn’t got any promotion.
The 35-year-old Masakadza had been named the interim captain after Graeme Cremer was removed from the post. It happened during Zimbabwe’s World Cup qualifier campaign at home, where they failed to finish in the top two and qualify for the 2019 event.
ZC also announced Walter Chawaguta, Prosper Utseya and Kenyon Ziehl as “substantive members” of the Zimbabwe national selection panel. Chawaguta remained the convenor of selectors. The other appointment made was of Dilip Chouhan, who will be the team manager for the men’s senior side, the ‘A’ team and the Under-19 team.
Coming to the upcoming assignments, they haven’t got any International fixtures until July. They are scheduled to play 3-match ODI series and 3-match T20I against Ireland. Zimbabwe will be the visiting side during the series.
