Batting positions is one of the key factors for players in T20 internationals and it is not easy to score runs coming down the order with very few deliveries left in the game. It is very important that the best batsmen in the team play the most number of deliveries in the innings in the shorter format.
It is interesting to see that the bowlers have managed to contribute at times lower down the order and they are going to be very handy in the playing XI. With the T20 World Cup scheduled to take place in a couple of months, it is time to look at 10 players with the highest T20I scores at each batting position.

No.11 – Chris Mpofu:
The tall Zimbabwean bowler scored a decent knock of 17 not out against the Netherlands in 2019 and his quickfire knock comprised of three fours. This is still the highest run score by a number 11 batsmen in T20 internationals and Netherlands went on beat the African team by 49 runs at the end which is a big number.

He hit 9 sixes and 6 fours in the innings with a strike rate of 296.67 and he holds the record for most runs by a number 7 batsmen in T20 internationals. Afghanistan went on to win the game by 28 runs against Ireland in then 3rd T20I in India.

Liam Livingstone came in at number five for England in the first T20I against Pakistan and played memorable innings of 103 off just 43 balls at a strike rate of 239.53. His innings compromised of nine sixes and 6 fours but couldn’t take his side to victory. He holds the highest score by a number five batsmen in T20Is.
No.4 – Glenn Maxwell:
Glenn Maxwell popularly known as the “big show” in cricket, came in at number 4 for Australia and played mouth-watering innings of an unbeaten 113 of just 55 balls against a tough Indian side in 2019 at Bengaluru. His innings comprised of nine sixes and 7 fours with a strike rate of 205.45 and his knock is still the highest score at No.4 position in T20Is.
No.3 – Brendon McCullum:
Brendon McCullum is known for his swashbuckling attacking play at the top of the order and he hit an excellent 123 off just 58 balls against Bangladesh in the T20 Worldcup in 2012. McCullum hit 11 fours and 7 sixes in his innings at a strike rate of 212.06 and this is the highest score for a No.3 batsman in T20 internationals. New Zealand won the game easily by 59 runs in the end.
Opening – Aaron Finch:
Aaron Finch holds the highest T20 international individual score as he played a terrific knock of 172 in just 76 balls against Zimbabwe in the Tri-Series in 2018. He hit 16 four and 10 sixes at a strike rate of 226.31 and helped Australia win the game easily by 100 runs. It is also the highest score at the opening position in T20 internationals.
