India pulled off a stunning series victory at the start of the year in Australia but lost to New Zealand in the World Test Championship finals with the batsmen not being able to cope up in swinging conditions in England. The flaws of the Indian batters have been exposed always in overseas conditions which is a major worry.

So far, except for the World Test Championship finals, India has managed to win two tough series against Australia and the home series against England. However, there is still a lot of work to be done with the Indian batsmen not being able to put enough pressure on the bowlers in overseas conditions, and here are 5 batsmen with the most Test Runs for India in 2021.

5 Batsmen With Most Test Runs For India in 2021:

Ajinkya Rahane:

Ajinkya Rahane ended fifth in the list of batsmen with the most Test runs for India in 2021 so far and the Mumbaikar has been operating way below his standards. Rahane has scored just one half-century this year and it came against England in a tough batting track.

Rahane has scored 268 runs in 8 Tests at an average of 20.61 and his inconsistent run of form will be a major worry for India in the five-match test series. The Indian vice-captain who finished as the highest run-getter in World Test Championship for the country needs to pull up his socks soon.

Shubman Gill:

The Indian opener Shubman Gill was very impressive in Australia scoring an important 91 that helped India chase down the 4th innings total at the Gabba. Since that he has been getting starts, but hasn’t been able to capitalize and make it big.

In 13 innings in 2021, Gill has scored 334 runs at an average of 27.83 with three fifties. He was unlucky to be missing out on the five-match test series against England and is currently at 4th in the list of batsmen with most Test runs for India in 2021.

Cheteshwar Pujara:

Cheteshwar Pujara hasn’t scored a test century since 2018 and it has continued into 2021 too. The right-hander played a big role in the series win for India in Australia but has been battling with himself to get those big innings under his belt.

Pujara is third on the list of batsmen with the most Test runs for India in 2021. He has scored 368 runs in 8 Tests at an average of 28.30 and has scored 4 half-centuries. He will need to bring his A-game into tact in the test series against England to prove his criticizers wrong.

Rohit Sharma:

Rohit Sharma has evolved so much in the longer format after moving up the order and his numbers do tell the story. Rohit has been India’s second-highest run-scorer in tests in 2021 and he has been willing to put in the hard yards in overseas conditions too.

The right-hander has scored 574 runs in 8 Tests at an average of 44.15 and his highest score of 161 came against England when the team needed him the most. He has been a great positive for the side with one century and two half-centuries this year already.

Rishabh Pant:

Rishabh Pant has been the team’s X-Factor player so far in 2021 with the famous knock of 89 not out to clinch the series for India in Australia. He followed it up with some brilliant knocks against England in the home series and the reverse sweep off James Anderson will be unforgettable.

Pant has scored 585 runs in 8 Tests at an average of 53.18 and he has scored 4 half-centuries and 1 century this year already. The wicket-keeper batsman has been India’s highest run-scorer in 2021 and he will be looking to continue his good run of form in the five tests in England.
